CMW handles Bel Air again in softball; Tech wins, too

Harford Tech and C. Milton Wright advanced in the state softball playoffs with wins Monday.

The C. Milton Wright softball team continued its dominance over Bel Air Monday and in a big, lopsided way in a Class 3A North Section II semifinal.

The Mustangs (17-3) scored multiple runs in four of the five innings where they scored en route to a 15-4, six inning win in Bel Air.

Harford Tech was also in the win column Monday in 2A East Section I play.

Morghan Fulton pitched and hit the Mustangs into the win column. Fulton had three of the Mustangs 21 hits and drove in four runs.

Quinn Ursprung (RBI), Caroline Weimer and Jenny Lynch (RBI) added two hits each for CMW. Weimer and Lynch had a double each.

Emily Kim added a two-RBI single, while Emily Luzetsky, Katie Murphy and Kyralee Comeaux also hit singles.

Rayn Gibson was the losing pitcher, giving up 13 hits and walking three. The Bobcats were not too solid in the field either, committing 11 errors.

CMW scored one in the first, six in the third, three in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the sixth. Bel Air scored three in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Brianna Fleischmann had two hits, an RBI and run scored to lead the Bobcats. Sarah Fleischmann, Gwen Markowski, Gibson, Morgan Dvorak and Leah Lozzi all had singles.

Sarah Fleischmann, Markowski and Gibson also scored runs for the Bobcats.

The Mustangs will host North Harford in Wednesday's section final. Game time is 4 p.m. North Harford (12-8) which has beaten CMW twice this season, beat host Dundalk, 17-4, Monday.

Cobras beat Tigers

Harford Tech (14-4) posted a 13-7 win over visiting Rising Sun. Madison Forsythe had two hits, including a triple, and four RBIs to pace the Cobras.

Kim Cook added a home run and three RBIs at the plate and pitched all seven innings for the win. Cook allowed seven hits and three walks, while striking out six.

Lindsay Bowler added two hits and three runs scored and Emily Wikane had two hits and two RBIs.

Postponed

Two Monday games were postponed and rescheduled for Tuesday. Patterson Mill (10-7) was to play at Elkton in 2A East play at North East, while Havre de Grace (8-11) was to play at Bo Manor in 1A East.

Bobcats blank Patapsco

Bel Air's win came at home Friday over Patapsco in Class 3A North Section II play. The Bobcats blanked the visitors, 7-0.

Junior pitcher Rayn Gibson was on her game again, striking out 16 in the win. The Bobcats scored three in the first, one in the third and three in the fourth.

Gibson was also part of the Bel Air hit parade. She blasted a home run and single and finished with two RBIs. Morgan Dvorak added two hits and two RBIs as well.

Gwen Markowski had two hits and an RBI and Brianna Fleischmann contributed two singles. Leah Lozzi had one hit and RBI, while Savannah Meyers and Amanda Criss also had a single each.

Mustangs drop Rams

C. Milton Wright was an easy winner in 3A North Section II play Thursday, dropping visiting Edgewood (4-13), 16-2, in five innings.

The Mustangs scored two runs in the first and blew the game completely out of reach in the second with an 13-run outburst.

CMW pounded out 17 hits, six of them for extra bases. Emily Luzetsky, Cat Kim, Caroline Weimer (2), Jenny Lynch and Emily Kim all hit doubles.

Morghan Fulton pitched the first three scoreless innings to collect the win. Edgewood scored both runs in the fifth.

Hawks blank Eagles

North Harford completed the Harford winners in 3A North Section II Thursday, beating visiting Aberdeen (7-11), 10-0.

Kelly Harkins and Alexis Lyttle each hit a triple to highlight the win.

Huskies beat Elks

Patterson Mill's win came in 2A East Section I play, as the Huskies (10-7) beat visiting Elkton, 5-1, Thursday.

The Huskies scored a run in the first, three in the second and one in the sixth.

Hailey Horton pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and one run, while striking out 11. Horton also assisted on three put-outs.

Catcher Samantha Denson was 3-for-3 in throwing out attempted base stealers.

Lauren Rossi had just one hit, but she drove in three runs. Becca Borowski and Horton both had two hits and an RBI. Lacey Breeden also had two hits. Denson and Brooke Bollinger had one hit each.

Warriors outlast Saints

Havre de Grace took the long bus ride to St. Michael's Thursday and left with an 12-7 win in 1A East Section I action.

Through four innings the teams' had combined for two runs in a 1-1 tie. The next three innings were filled with 17 runs.

The Warriors (8-11) first run came on Olivia DuBois' infield single, plating younger sister Leah DuBois. The Saints run came on an two-out throwing error and three consecutive walks.

A walk, two hits and an error plated two more runs for the Saints, who led 3-1 after five.

The sixth inning belonged to Havre de Grace. Annelise Beer led off with a triple and scored on Addie Richardson's single. Kateri Peters drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and the Saints defense committed two errors in the inning. Beer batted again and singled in the final two of the seven runs scored.

St. Michael's scored three in their half of the sixth, but Havre de Grace answered with four more runs in the seventh. The Saints did get one more run in the seventh to close out the scoring.

Samara White had three hits and two runs scored for the Warriors. Olivia DuBois finished with two hits and two RBIs, as did Beer. Leah DuBois had two hits, an RBI and three runs scored. Kennan Glassman had a hit and two runs scored and Richardson had one hit and one RBI.

Beer pitched all seven innings for the win. She allowed eight hits, six walks and hit two batters. She struck out five.

Other scores

In 1A East Section I, Joppatowne (0-11) was beaten 17-0 at Colonel Richardson. In 2A East Section I, Fallston (10-11) was beaten by visiting Rising Sun, 4-0.
