More than 90 people and 11 teams are signed up to have their heads shaved to raise money for children's cancer research at the Susquehanna Hose Co.'s St. Baldrick's Foundation fundraiser beginning at noon on Saturday, March 21, at Bill Bateman's Bistro in Havre de Grace.
As of Tuesday night, fundraising pledges for the event totaled almost $33,000, according to the St. Baldrick's website, well in excess of the volunteer fire company's goal of $25,000.
Susquehanna Hose Co. held its first St. Baldrick's fundraiser last March, and it turned out to be an unqualified success. They had hoped to raise $18,000 and took in $63,000, Chief Scott Hurst said last month. "We had no idea how big it would get."
Hurst said the fire company decided to make this year's fundraiser a major community service activity, one of several in which SHCO participates or organizes.
People can still donate or sign up to participate at http://www.stbaldrick.org or make donations the day of the event.
If weather permits, this year's action will take place outside on the movable stage provided by Harford County Parks and Recreation.
Bill Bateman's is at 2021 Pulaski Highway in the Swan Creek Village Center.
