Volunteers at the 5K glow run and walk at John Carroll May 9 were top row from left, Nick Lewis, Stefan Splitgerber and Alex English; middle row from left, Marc Griffin, Brady Fritz, Matt Burdeshaw, Rachel Amrhein, Thelma DiBeneditto and Peggy Gray; and front row from left, Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company's Ed Beksinski, Adam Siemek, Jonny Lewis, John Stansfield, Greg Johnson, Kristen Williams, Abby Weldon, Erica Kelble, Nikki Ishak, Rachel Hedeen, Lauren Wenig, Bobby Gray, Rusty English and Megan Muller.

On Saturday, May 9, Alex English, a 17-year-old senior at John Carroll School, hosted a 5K glow run/walk.

John Carroll seniors must complete a senior project as part of their graduation requirements. Louise Geczy has been in charge of the senior projects at John Carroll for the last seven years and follows up with the students frequently to ensure success in their projects. Alex chose to do a 5K glow run/walk to raise money for depression awareness. All money donated will go to the depression awareness organization "To Write Love on Her Arms."

The students must work on their project throughout their senior year and present it before graduation. Alex handed out many flyers to local businesses to raise money for the charity and for the event. He had many volunteers help him put this together.

All donations came from Drs. Scribner & Kleman, BH Motors, Cook Volkswagen, Wilmot Modular Structures Inc., Ben's Tires, Pizza Hut, Paul W. Ishak Esq., Fritz D.J's., Chick-Fil-A, Italian Sensations, Hinder Ford, E-Kids snowballs, Contracting Services by Russell C. English Jr. and Bel Air Volunteer Fire Dept. and White Marsh Volunteer Fire Dept.

Alex put in many hours and handed out many, many flyers, asking for donations but only 17 responded to help him either by volunteering their time or a monetary donation. He wanted to give them recognition because he could never have made this happen without their help.
