Saturday's Darlington Independence Day Parade canceled

Saturday's Darlington Independence Day Parade and celebration has been canceled, the committee that stages the parade announced.

The Fireworks Display only has been postponed to Sunday, June 28, at dusk, the committee said.

The fireworks, sponsored this year by Exelon, are shot off from Francis Silver Park.

There is a strong chance of rain throughout the day and overnight Saturday.

The National Weather Service website says there is a 100 percent chance of rain on Saturday and into Saturday night, with thunderstorms and the rain heavy at times. New rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible.

Clearing is expected Sunday during the day; however, the NWS says there is a "slight chance of showers before 9 p.m.
