Nick Pasko of Bel Air and Patrick Hairfield of Abingdon finished one-two in the 20-24 age group Saturday in a round-trip between the Baltimore Zoo and Lake Montebello.
The two were among 4,059 runners who raced in the annual Baltimore 10 Miler.
Pasko, 22, returned to the finish line at the zoo in 1:00:48 to place 12th overall and first among 81 runners in the age group. Hairfield, 23, finished one place behind him in 1:01:27.
Megan Hairfield was the top Harford finisher among the women. She ran 1:08:55 to place fifth in the women's field and second in the 25-29 age group. Sarah Westervelt of Bel Air was 14th in 1:13:12 and third in 35-39.
Other top Harford finishers among the women were Jeanette Goetz, seventh in 45-49 in 1:18:13; Denay Gray, eighth in 40-44 in 1:21:13; and Esther Buchser, eighth in over-60 in 1:35:09.
Among Harford men, Brian Hairfield placed seventh in 25-29 in 1:05:37; Mark Wohlfort, eighth in 40-44 in 1:09:51; John Escarsega, fourth in 50-54 in 1:09:58; Dennis Mezan, seventh in 50-54 in 1:13:19; Joe Zulty, third in 55-59 in 1:14:24; Jim Zulty, eighth in 55-59 in 1:19:56; Brad Roberts, 11th in over-60 in 1:23:16; and J. Tobin, 12th in over-60 in 1:23:28.
GBMC Father's Day 5K
Leo and Sean Handerhan of Bel Air were the fastest of the father-son teams in the GBMC Father's Day 5K in Towson Sunday.
In a field of 532, Sean finished fifth in 18:27 and Leo, 50th, in 23:25 to earn the top prize in the father-son competition, in which they finished second last year. Leo took third in the 50-59 age group, and Sean, second in 16-19.
The race, the 26th annual, started and ended on the GBMC campus. Kay Vinton of Kingsville led the women's 50-59 age group in 26:07. Dan Vinton, 16, was eighth overall in 20:02.
Taking second place in their age groups were Brent Van Scyoc of Jarrettsville in 40-49 in 20:39 and Keith Kirn of White Hall, over-70 in 34:14.
Paul Fallace of Bel Air placed fifth in 40-49 in 21:55 and son Kyle, eighth in 16-19 in 23:37. Michael Modica of Abingdon was fourth in 30-39 in 22:18.
Dragonfly Heart Triathlon
Jose Delp led her age group in the Dragonfly Heart Triathlon in Chestertown Sunday.
The 63-year-old Whiteford resident completed a quarter-mile swim in 19:38, 12-mile bike in 40:51 and a 2.5-mile run in 21:59 to finish in 1 hour, 26 minutes.
Chuck Wienckowski of Bel Air finished second in the 65-69 age group in 1:22:17 and Terri Broemm of Bel Air was second in 60-64 in 1:43:32. Also among the finishers were Michele Catterton of Forest Hill in 1:37:06 and Jim Vadas of Bel Air, 1:39:49.
CGR Relentless 5K
Adam Thornton, a distance runner for the Perryville High School track team, led 284 runners to the finish of the CGR Relentless 5K in Perryville May 31, winning by 7 seconds in 17:14. Ritsa Karakanas of Aberdeen Proving Ground led the women in 21:50. The third annual race benefited a scholarship fund in memory of Cody G. Richardson, star Perryville athlete who was killed in an automobile accident in 2011.
Duane Christy of Havre de Grace led the 50-59 age group, placing 18th overall in 20:45. Michele Lynch of Bel Air placed second in the 40-49 age group in 27:34 and Jose Delp of Whiteford was third in 50-59 in 28:23.
