Bartholomew is a grand-master winner Memorial Day 5K

Rob Bartholomew of Aberdeen won the grand-masters award in the Special Operations Memorial Day 5K in Baltimore Monday. He also finished third in the military category.

The 51-year-old Army veteran raced over a course in the Canton Port District in 20:14 to place 15th overall among 253. He led the over-50 age group by a margin of 3 1/2 minutes.

Behind Bartholomew, Brad Roberts, 63, of Bel Air, was awarded first in the over-50 age group. He ran 23:47. Allen Meyer of White Hall took third in 26:00; Mike Trott of Joppa, seventh in 26:37; and Ken Szymanski of Bel Air, eighth in 26:47 among the over-50 men.

Michele Marciniak of Abingdon led the 20-29 women in 23:06, and Kim Roberts of Bel Air was second in 23:28.

Luke Sullivan of Annapolis was the men's winner in 16:33. Casey Fisher of Abingdon finished 12th behind Sullivan in 19:26. Rachel Thomas of Perry Hall led the women in 20:19.

In other races

Sean McCormick of Bel Air was the third finisher in the annual McVet 5K in Baltimore Sunday. He ran 17:04. In the age groups, Robert Smoot of Forest Hill placed third in 50-59 in 27:12. There were 262 finishers in the 5K and 201 in the 10K.

Sam Verk, an Edgewood High School junior, repeated as winner of the Stoneleigh Stampede 5K in Baltimore Saturday. He led 202 runners to the finish in 17:28, winning by 1 1/2 seconds.

Donna Lewis of Bel Air led the 60-69 age group in the Chestertown Tea Party 10-Miler Saturday. She finished in 1:17:42, the fastest among both women and men in the age group. Other Harford runners placing in the age groups were David Callaghan, fifth, 50-59 in 1:14:12; Gwyneth Lewis, fifth, 40-49, 1:22:18; Brad Roberts, third, 60-69, 1:22:55; and Karen Henry, third, 50-59, 1:27:07.

Cody McDaniel of North East and Meghan Moreau of Forest Hill were the winners in the Gator Gallop 5K Sunday on the Ma & Pa Trail in Bel Air. McDaniel won in 21:08, and Moreau, in 26:50. Seth Chason took second in 22:03, and Kirk Ingold, third in 22:45. Daughter and mother Lily and Kelly Klipa of Aberdeen were second and third in 33:20 and 33:21, respectively.

High school seniors Will Hopkins (29:16) and Eric Jagde (30:14) led the RASAC Greenway 4.9-Miler Sunday in Susquehanna State Park. Dina Lastner-Sandruck was first among the women in 39:58, and Elizabeth Collard, second in 40:58.

Bel Air Town Run

Dave Berdan is making a comeback and coming back to the Bel Air Town Run. The 34-year-old Stevenson University cross-country coach, who won the 2013 Baltimore Marathon but was hobbled by a stress fracture in the 2014 marathon, plans to be on the starting line June 7.

Berdan won the Remembrance Run 5K in Howard County Monday in 15:41, indicating he is getting back to racing shape.

Four-time women's winner Megan DiGregorio also plans to return, seeking yet another win.

Registrations reached the 900 mark this week, and race director Mike Early expects 1,600 on the starting line June 7. Runners may register on-line at belairtownrun.com or by downloading the entry form and mailing it. Runners may also register and pick up packets on June 4 and 5 at the Bel Air Athletic Club, 10a.m. to 2 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and at Charm City Run in Bel Air, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 6. Registration continues on race day in Shamrock Park until 7:45 a.m.
