Bel Air runners race well in Howard County half marathon

Runners from Bel Air raced to runner-up finishes in the Maryland Half Marathon Saturday in Howard County. Erika Stasakova placed second in the women's race, and Adam Bosley, second in the men's.

Stasakova, who was an outstanding runner at John Carroll and Lafayette College, ran 1:36:47, her fastest time for the 13.1-mile distance. She finished behind Caroline Bauer ,of Columbia, who won in 1:32:29.


Bosley, who placed eighth in the race last year, finished in 1:22:25, about a half mile behind winner Adam Callaway, of Baltimore, who ran 1:19:29.

Matt Klaschus, of Street, winner of the 2010 Maryland Half Marathon, finished third in the field of 1,084 in 1:23:24. Jerry Henderson, of Bel Air, led all masters runners in 1:28:54, finishing 11th overall.


Nanticoke River Triathlon

Robert Tisch closed with a fast 3-mile run to finish sixth in the Nanticoke River Triathlon in Bivalve, Md., May 5.

Tisch, 42, swam a half mile in 12:40, averaged 22.9 mph on a 15.2-mile bike course, and sped a 16:56 on the run, the fastest run by any of the top finishers. He led the 40-44 age group in 1:11:26.

Chuck Wienckowski, of Bel Air, won the 65-69 age group by a 13-minute margin in 1:35:37. Brian Walker, of Bel Air, placed third in 45-49 in 1:19:10, and Justin Markel, of Abingdon, fifth in 30-34 in 1:19:24.

Richard Berkey, of Bel Air, clocked 1:25:47 for fifth in 35-39, and Jim Vadas, of Bel Air, 2:05:42 for third in 70-and-over. Among the women, Lois King, of Street, placed third in 45-49 in 1:36:23.

Havre de Grace 5K Redcoat Run

Matt Sprouse, 16, of Bel Air, led 159 runners to the finish of the CrossFit 5K Redcoat Run, an event of the War of 1812 observance in Havre de Grace May 5. It was the first win for the Patterson Mill student, who ran 20:27. Jori Masho, of Landenberg, Pa., finished second in 20:50, and Philip Deans, of Havre de Grace, third in 20:51. Sandy Sanders, of Havre de Grace, led the women in 21:11, with Maureen Hall, of Lavale, 21:32, and Rachel Morehouse, of Joppa, 21:41, close behind.

In Other Races. . .

Meghan McAdorey, of Bel Air, placed 28th in the 21-24 age group in the Broad Street 10 Miler in Philadelphia May 6. One of 32,000 runners in the race, she was timed in 1:10:36.

Kirk Ingold and Kate Hoppe led the LASOS Running of the Bulls in Bel Air May 5. Ingold won in 21:12, leading Dan Bishop by 19 seconds. Rick Bishop took third in 22:58. Hoppe won the women's race in 22:59, with Holly Gifford second in 28:52 and Jackie Howard, third in 29:45.

Paula Bamford, of Bel Air, ran 3:37:26 in the 10th annual Potomac River Run Marathon in Washington, D.C., May 5.

Matt Burdette and Nancy Hill were the winners of the Havre de Grace Music Boosters 5K May 11. Burdette led all 74 finishers in 19:31. Bob Porambo was second in 19:44, and Duane Christy, third in 20:18. Hill led the women in 24:15 with Michele Hoffman second in 24:56, and Emily Berkowitz third in 24:58.


Sean Handerhan, 18, of Bel Air, ran 17:59 in winning the Hannah Kriss Foundation 5K in Forest Hill May 11. Steven Frayne was the runner-up in 20:04. Kristine Bull, of Bel Air, led the women in 24:11 with Caitlin Hilbert second in 24:38.

Several Harford runners were among the 600 finishers in the Christiana Care Delaware Marathon May 12: Judith Lavoie, 4:03:06; Lisa Gesualdo, 4:08:11; Robert Rajewski, 4:24:29; David Wood, 4:35:37; Frank Carcirieri, 4:59:12; Andrew Carcirieri, 4:59:12; Kathleen Shea, 5:36:59; and Brenda Kinzinger, 6:26:53.
