Tinsel Queen Latifah

Queen Latifah, the hip-hop and entertainment mogul who has been busy promoting her new HBO movie, "Bessie," a biopic about the foundation blues singer Bessie Smith, was spotted in at least two Harford County restaurants this week.

Employees of The Olive Tree restaurant on Aberdeen's Beards Hill Road and Baldwin's Crabhouse on Route 40 in Joppatowne spotted the star, who has a long history with, and family in, Harford County. There were social media posts announcing the news, but when contacted later for comment, those at the restaurants chose not to speak out of respect for the Queen's privacy.

The entertainer has family ties to Harford and often visits. The night after her visit to the Olive Tree, she was spotted at Baldwin's Crab House in Joppa, according to posts on Twitter and Instagram.

An employee of the Olive Tree declined to comment about her encounter. One of Baldwin's owners also didn't want to speak Thursday, but acknowledged Queen Latifah has been a frequent guest.

A 2010 article in Variety reported that Latifah owned a small home in the Joppa area, in addition to homes in New Jersey and Los Angeles. State property tax records list a Joppa property of that description in Latifah's given name, Dana Owens, with a New Jersey mailing address for tax bills.

"I grew up a lot in Maryland and Virginia because that's where my mom is from so we were always down there for summers, Thanksgivings, Christmas, you know," Latifah told TheBoomBox.com in a 2012 interview.
