Police investigate fatal shooting near Aberdeen

The Harford County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of an man who was found fatally shot in the hallway of an Aberdeen area apartment building early Saturday morning.

The victim has been identified as Richard Anthony Jackson, 26, with a last known address in Harford County.

Deputies responded to the Perrywood Gardens Apartments in the 300 block of Mayberry Drive following an anonymous 911 call for shots fired at 2:55 a.m., Sheriff's Office spokesperson Lt. W. Michael Crabbs said.

They found an African-American male lying in the common area of the building located at 301 Mayberry Drive, Crabbs said.

Jackson had multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's body was transported to the medical examiner's office in Baltimore, where an autopsy was expected to be conducted Saturday.

"It's an active investigation," Crabbs said. "We are asking anyone with information to please call the Southern Precinct at 410-612-1717."

In a later statement, Crabbs said Sheriff's Office investigators processed the scene for evidence and conducted numerous interviews. The search for a suspect is continuing.

The Perrywood complex is about a mile south of Aberdeen.
