An Aberdeen woman died Monday morning in a traffic accident on I-95 near Perryville in which she lost control of her car and was struck by an SUV, police said.
Danielle A. Johnson, who would have turned 24 Thursday, was merging with northbound traffic on the highway from the Route 222 entrance ramp when she lost control of her 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, according to Maryland State Police.
"She came off the ramp, came across three lanes of traffic, and she was hit, T-boned by an SUV," Sgt. Beads of the JFK Memorial Highway Barrack in Perryville said Tuesday. Beads declined to give his first name.
The accident happened around 7:20 a.m. Beads said the crash is being investigated by the State Police, and the reason why Ms. Johnson lost control is still unknown.
Beads said Ms. Johnson's Cobalt spun across the three-lane highway, was hit in the far-left lane by a Ford Explorer heading north and then struck the guardrail. Two of the three lanes of the interstate were closed after the crash.
Ms. Johnson was pronounced dead en route to the hospital, he said. The driver of the Explorer was not injured.
Beads said the death of a young person in the accident has been hard for his fellow troopers.
