Harford County District Court Judge David Carey ordered Monday that Johnson be held on $500,000 bail. He was still in jail Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 11:19 a.m. Wednesday, patrol deputies from the Southern Precinct were called to the Starlite Plaza on Route 40 for the report of an armed robbery.

Deputies said the assailant entered Starlite Pawn, displayed a handgun and ordered the victim to go to the rear of the store, according to Cristie Kahler, a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office.

A struggle ensued and the victim was shot in the right arm, Kahler wrote in an email.

Emergency medical services were notified; however, the victim refused treatment, the Sheriff's Office said.

The robber, who was described as a black man, 25 to 35 years old, ran away from the shopping plaza and headed across Route 40 toward Gateway Drive.

Patrol deputies, assisted by members of the Maryland State Police, searched the area, but were unable to find the suspect.

Detectives from the Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division and members of the Forensic Services Unit responded to the scene to assume control of the investigation, the Sheriff's Office said, and were eventually led to Johnson as the suspect.

Deputies assigned to the Southern Precinct and Crime Suppression Unit arrested Johnson without incident Friday morning, the Sheriff's Office said.

He was taken to the Southern Precinct, where he was questioned by detectives before being taken to the Harford County Detention Center.

Johnson has lived in Maryland for 28 years, including three years on and off in Harford County, public defender Tim Bahr told Carey during the bail review.

Johnson is single, has two children and received General Educational Development certification. He has worked at a barbershop on and off, Bahr said.

"I think some of these more serious charges may go away," Bahr told the judge.
