Harford's first baby of 2015, Everleigh Paige Couch, born to Rising Sun woman

Deanna Cook wasn't making any wild plans for New Year's. She knew right where she would be: Getting ready to give birth to her second child.

Although the birth wasn't the first for Cook, it turned out to be a first for Harford County.

The Rising Sun woman's baby was the first to be born in Harford County for 2015, delivered into the world on New Year's Day at 3:46 p.m.

Cook, who just turned 27 in mid-December, made the 35-minute trip to Bel Air's University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center along with her mom, Karen Cook.

Only a few moments after she got to the hospital, her daughter, Everleigh Paige Couch, was born in an easy, short delivery, Cook said.

Everleigh, who weighs 6 pounds 5 ounces and is 19 1/2 inches tall, will be a sister to Cook's first child, 9-year-old Jasmine.

"I was happy. I didn't think she was going to come that soon," Cook said, noting her due date was originally Jan. 7. "I was a nervous wreck."

The baby's father and Cook's boyfriend, Matthew Couch, was out working on Friday, while Cook was still in the hospital, she said.

Cook was excited for Everleigh to be the first baby born in the new year. Everleigh, for her part, was quietly sleeping next to her mother, with a sparkly "Happy New Year" headband perched above her head.

"It's awesome," Cook said with a smile about having the county's first baby. "It's cool. It's really cool."

Karen Cook joked they had been trying to compete with some other couples after hearing they were in the running for first baby.

"We were tickled to death," Karen Cook said after learning they made it.

Her daughter said their only New Year's plans involved getting ready for the baby.

"I was just waiting and waiting, just sitting at home and waiting," Deanna Cook said.

Deanna Cook, who graduated from Rising Sun High School and will be a stay-at-home mom, said she also delivered Jasmine at Upper Chesapeake and specifically wanted to be in Bel Air.

"I love this hospital," she said.
