Bel Air woman tells police boyfriend allegedly kept her in Cadillac trunk for five days

A 35-year-old Bel Air woman told police her boyfriend allegedly kidnapped and kept her in the trunk of her car for five days, before she was able to escape and seek help Friday at a Cracker Barrel restaurant off Route 543 in Belcamp, Maryland State Police reported.A Parkville man, identified by police as Ransom Ingram Jr., 35, of the 6600 block of English Oak Road, has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged kidnapping and is being held without bail at the Harford Detention Center.&quot;She [the victim] was being kept in the trunk since [Oct. 3], only being let out for short periods of time,&quot; State Police spokesperson Elena Russo said Tuesday. Russo declined to identify the woman and said police have not established any motive for the kidnapping.The woman was able to escape by using the emergency trunk release in the 2000 champagne-colored Cadillac DeVille while the car was on the I-95 exit ramp near Route 543, Russo said.The car belongs to the victim and had temporary license plates, Russo said. The suspect allegedly abandoned the car in Baltimore, where it was found Saturday, she said.Once out of the trunk, the woman ran to the Cracker Barrel, in the 1400 block of Handlir Drive, and police were notified around 4:17 p.m. Friday.Troopers from the Bel Air and JFK Highway barracks of State Police provided medical help and took the victim to University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for treatment, according to the release and Russo.After obtaining a warrant for Ingram, police arrested him without incident Saturday at a residence in Abingdon, according to State Police.Ingram is charged with first- and second-degree assault, kidnapping, false imprisonment, reckless endangerment, using a firearm in a felony, illegal possession of a firearm, having a handgun on his person and possessing a firearm with a felony conviction, according to online court records.He has 13 prior arrests and 12 convictions, including multiple ones for second-degree assault, Harford County Assistant State's Attorney Alison Healey told District Court Judge Dave Carey during a bail review in Bel Air Tuesday afternoon.Healey called the charges &quot;extremely egregious,&quot; noting the victim was &quot;essentially pistol-whipped&quot; and had &quot;severe lacerations and abrasions to the face.&quot;Carey agreed and ordered Ingram to continue being held without bail.Ingram also has two probations, public defender Andrew Geraghty said, and has lived with his father at the Parkville address for a year.Investigators are asking witnesses to the alleged kidnapping or escape to call the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division, 410-879-2101, ext. 320, or the Maryland State Police Bel Air Barrack, 410-879-2101.
