A fire that investigators say was caused by leaking propane from a grill being ignited by an electrical outlet, extensively damaged a deck behind a Joppa home early Monday morning.Firefighters from the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company and other area companies responded to the 400 block of Foster Branch Road shortly after 5 a.m., after the occupant of the home reported the fire.Richard Isaac, the occupant, heard "a bang" and discovered his grill on fire, according to a notice of investigation from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. He tried putting out the fire with a portable fire extinguisher and then called 911.The blaze was brought under control swiftly, according to the notice of investigation, with at least 15 firefighters responding. While the fire was contained to the grill and the deck, damage is estimated at $15,000 to the structure and $5,000 to contents.The Fire Marshal's Office sent a reminder in the notice of investigation that propane grill owners should always turn off the valve to the propane tank and periodically check lines and hoses for leaks.Z28 fireFirefighters from the Aberdeen Fire Department responded shortly after 3 a.m. Monday for a report of a vehicle fire off Silvermans Lane near Route 40, according to the Fire Marshal's Office.The owner had reported a 1988 Chevy Camaro Z28 had been stolen earlier.
