Tractor pulls, animal exhibits and carnival rides will fill the fairgrounds in Delta, Pa., this week as the Mason-Dixon Fair returns for its 18th year.
The fair will again provide "friendly competition among neighbors and a wholesome, educational atmosphere for all ages" from Sunday, July 11, through Saturday, July 16.
The fairgrounds are located at the Maryland – Pennsylvania state line, at the junction of Maryland's Route 165 and Pennsylvania's Route 74.
Starting Monday, the midway gate opens nightly at 5 p.m., except for Saturday, when it opens at 2 p.m. General admission is $4 on Monday and Tuesday, and $6 from Wednesday through Saturday. Children 6 years old and younger get in free.
Visitors can also ride all rides for $18, in addition to the admission price, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
"We've got new vendors this year," Jeff Griffith, president of the Mason-Dixon Fair, said Friday. "We've expanded the fairgrounds, we have more animals this year. On Wednesday night, we're having East Coast tractor pull come in."
Truck and tractor pulls, as well as gas and diesel pick-ups, happen at 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. every night.
Tuesday night features the Columbia Hillclimbers on the track, and Wednesday night will have antique tractor pulls at 6 p.m., Griffith noted.
Another returning feature will be helicopter rides, which have not been at the fair for a few years.
The contests for Fair Princess, Little Miss Dixon and Mr. Mason, and Fair Queen and Junior Fair Queen, will take place starting at 6 p.m. Monday.
A watermelon-eating contest will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, and Friday includes an animal dress-up contest at 7:30 p.m.
The fair closes out with a fireman's parade at 5 p.m. Saturday and a fireworks display at 10 p.m. that day.
Griffith said he expects another good turnout this year, and, with nice weather, "we should do very well this year."
