Walkers, runners and bikers who frequent the Ma & Pa Trail in Bel Air will be unable to access the path from Williams Street for about a month.

The main trailhead will be closed beginning on or about May 18 for about 30 days so the Harford County Department of Parks and Recreation can repair the path, according to a press release sent Tuesday.

Construction will affect the trail about 1/4 of a mile in, starting from the Williams Street entrance, spokeperson Cindy Mumby said.

The trail will still be accessible from the Liriodendron Mansion parking lot, off Gordon Street, Mumby said.

"Storms over the years have caused significant erosion to the culvert located just past the Williams [Street] trailhead," Mumby said in the press release.

"Repairs are necessary to prevent further damage to the culvert and, ultimately, the trail," she said.

The Ma & Pa is set to reopen "in time for the trail's busy summer season," Mumby said.

The work will be done by Comer Construction at a cost of $72,650, Mumby said.

The Bel Air section of the Ma & Pa stretches 1.9 miles, to Heavenly Waters Park.
