Tree falls on BGE worker in Fallston

A BGE subcontractor was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center after a tree fell on him in Fallston Tuesday morning, Harford County rescue officials said.

The man suffered injuries to his upper body and was in serious condition after the 10 a.m. incident, reported in the 2800 block of Plesantville Road, according to Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association and Fallston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company.

"A tree fell and struck the worker, who was on the ground," Fallston Fire and Ambulance Company spokesman Dave Williams said.

The incident happened off a driveway about 60 feet from the road, Williams said. The victim was not pinned or trapped by the tree, he said. Williams did not know the man's age or identity.

The worker was taken by ambulance to the parking lot of a nearby church, where a Maryland State Police Medevac met him and flew him to Shock Trauma, according to the fire company.

The man was working with Lewis Tree Service, BGE spokesman Aaron Koos said. He said the victim was removing a dead tree near the power lines but did not know any more about the tree or the man.

"We would certainly be looking into this with Lewis Tree Service to see what happened," Koos said.
