During a third compliance test in less than four weeks, three Harford County businesses sold an alcoholic beverage to an underage student Saturday, according to the county liquor control board.
Working with Maryland State Police and a Harford Community College student, a liquor board inspector checked 31 businesses licensed to sell alcoholic beverages.
In each of the three cases where a violation occurred, servers were charged with selling or furnishing an alcoholic beverage to someone under the age of 21, which carries a penalty of as much as two years in jail and a $1,000 fine, the liquor board said.
The servers at Pat's Pizzeria in Edgewood (the only Pat's Pizzeria in Harford with a liquor license) and at Herb's Wine & Spirits in Edgewood didn't ask the student for identification, according to the liquor board. The server at Bourbon Market in Aberdeen checked the IDs of the student and the state trooper who accompanied him and still served.
"Not yet 100 percent passing, but getting closer," chief liquor inspector Charlie Robbins wrote in an email.
Businesses that refused to serve the underage student and passed the test included Aberdeen Liquors, Applebee's, Beards Hill Plaza Liquors, Olive Tree Restaurant, Forty Liquors and Wetlands Golf Club in Aberdeen; Baldwin's Seafood Restaurant & Lounge, Mountain Branch Golf, Pub & Grill in Joppa; Bel Air Liquors, Birroteca, Double T Diner, 7-Eleven (1302 E. Churchville Road), Famous Dave's and Greek Village Restaurant.
The others that passed were Red Robin Gourmet Burgers & Brews, 3rd Base Liquors and India Garden in Bel Air; Italian Sensation, Plaza Mexico, Smitty's Fine Wine & Spirits and Texas Roadhouse in Fallston; Beverage Barn and Riverside Pizzeria, Friendship Wine & Liquor and KG Abingdon Liquors in Abingdon; and Chiapparelli's Restaurant, American Legion Joseph L. Davis Post 47, and MacGregor's Restaurant in Havre de Grace.
