Edgewood High an exemplary Harford school [Letter]

Editor:

Edgewood High School is Awesome!

I read with great interest Bryna Zumer's article in the Friday, Aug. 23, edition of The Aegis in which Mr. Llewellyn, an art teacher new to Edgewood High School states that he was very surprised at the order and fine learning environment that he found upon his arrival.

In September 1956, I arrived at Edgewood High School to teach English and found the very same environment as Mr. Llewellyn. A few years later, I was appointed Assistant Principal and later opened the newly-constructed Edgewood Middle School as its first principal where I remained for 20 years. I spent my entire career in the Edgewood Community. Some of my colleagues who had moved around the county looking for the perfect high school chastised me for not seeking a transfer to head up "a better school."

I suspect that all of Harford County's high schools are working hard to be the best that they can be. And as a co-worker once said to me, "Edgewood gets a bum rap!" I am proud of my history with Edgewood High School, Edgewood Middle School and the Edgewood community.
