A 57-year-old woman was injured Wednesday afternoon in a car accident in Joppatowne and flown to shock trauma.
The two-car accident was reported just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of Route 40 and Joppa Farm Road, according to a press release from Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company.
When they arrived, Joppa-Magnolia personnel found that one patient was trapped in a car. Rescuers used the Jaws of Life to "peel the mangled metal away from the seriously injured 57-year-old female driver," according to the release.
She was freed at 2:13 p.m. and turned over to Joppa-Magnolia paramedics; she was flown by Medevac helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore; her condition was not available.
Maryland State Police, who are investigating the accident and had no further information Wednesday night, briefly closed the westbound lanes of Route 40
