John Carroll's Ritter wins National Prep title

John Carroll's wrestling team closed out the strongest season in school history over the weekend with a fifth place finish at the National Prep Championships held at Lehigh University.

The Patriots went into the highly challenging national tournament with a school record 11 wrestlers.

Individually, Hunter Ritter was crowned a national champion at the 195-pound weight classafter placing second last year. Chris Almony finished in third place, going 6-1 with six pins.

The Patriots also got excellentperformances fromZach Dwyer, 126,and Christian Scott, 285, who earned All-American honors. In addition to the historic team finish,Coach Keith Watson was named National Prep Coach of the Year.

Seniors Brian Chalmers, Almony, Ritter and Scott have also all been selected to represent the Maryland private schools against the Public School All-Star Team at McDaniel College on March 10.
