A new spot to order "freaky fast" sub sandwiches is ready to serve the appetites of central Bel Air.

Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches was set to open its second Harford County restaurant at Harford Mall on Tuesday.

The sandwich store took over the site occupied by Vaccaro's Italian Pastries in the mall's front restaurant strip.

Sam Queen, Jimmy John's general manager and owner/operator, said the Harford franchise's owners had originally wanted the mall to be the first Jimmy John's location.

"We have been in talks to get it for two years," she said about the location. The two Harford restaurants have four additional owners.

"It's going to be a good spot with the mall entrance out there," she said. "It will get the Jimmy John's name out a little more."

The restaurant has about 30 employees, she said.

Vaccaro's was asked to move next door after TCBY closed, Vaccaro's manager Donna Proudfoot explained.

She said the Baltimore-based bakery re-opened Nov. 12.

Jimmy John's opened its first Harford restaurant last year at Constant Friendship Shopping Center in Abingdon.

Queen said the owners would like to open another site in White Marsh, but are not considering any future Harford locations.

The Jimmy John's chain is based in Illinois.
