Maryland State Police are continuing their investigation of an two-vehicle crash east of Bel Air Thursday afternoon, after which police say one of the drivers and his passenger "bailed out" of their vehicle and fled from the scene on foot.

"It was an accident with a bailout," Sgt. Reiner, of the MSP's Bel Air Barrack, said.

Reiner also said Reiner a witness reported that one of the men who fled may have been "trying to conceal something."

As of Friday afternoon, state troopers were still looking for both men, one white and the other black, according to Trooper Estrin, of the Bel Air Barrack.

The crash, which happened near the intersection of Route 543 and Route 22 close to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church on Route 22, was reported around 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

One vehicle, a Silver Honda, could be seen in photos from the scene in a ditch along Route 22 facing east. A smashed mailbox was behind it, and the second vehicle involved, a green Honda Civic, sat in the middle of the highway. Its rear end was smashed and crumpled.

The scene of the accident was cleared within two hours.

Estrin said the Civic was backing out of a driveway on Route 22, when it "T-boned" the other vehicle that was traveling east on Route 22.

Estrin said there were two people inside the sliver Honda that was hit, a woman who was driving and her son. They were transported by ambulance to University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air with non-life threatening injuries, he said.

Estrin said his investigation is ongoing.

Harford County Sheriff's Office deputies were also called to the scene to assist, spokesperson Cristie Kahler confirmed.

This updated story contains a correction from a previous version. Both people who fled the scene were in only one of the vehicles involved.
