Harford director of community services leaving for HUD post

Harford County Executive David R. Craig has announced the departure of Beth Hendrix, director of the Department of Community Services, effective Sept. 12.

Hendrix, who has headed the department since January 2011 and has been with the county government for 16 years, accepted a position with the federal Department of Housing & Urban Development in Washington, D.C., the county said in a statement.

"Beth Hendrix is a talented professional who has been dedicated to bettering the lives of Harford County citizens. I am proud of what she has accomplished in community services for the citizens of Harford County during her tenure and I wish her well in her future endeavors," Craig said.

According to the statement, Craig will name Jim Ports as the department's acting director through the remainder of the county executive's term in early December. Ports is administrator of Harford Transit.
