Relay for Life, which raises money for the American Cancer Society programs, returns to Havre de Grace today (Friday) starting at 6 p.m. at James R. Harris Stadium.
As of Wednesday afternoon, 41 teams and 508 participants had signed up and received pledges totaling $73,351, according to the Havre de Grace page on the Relay for Life website.
Among this year's sponsors are Holiday Inn, Johnson Family Pharmacy, Rite Aid, Harford Bank, Holloway Eye Care and Optics, Robinhood Paintball, Mile One Automotive, Ripken Baseball, Smuckers, Airgas, Harford Bank, Cranberry United Methodist Church, Harford Lower Extremity Specialists, the American Legion, University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health, Lunch Box Deli and Treats, The Traffic Group, Fawn Industries, Pandemic Outfitters and HydroGraphic Solutions.
According to the American Cancer Society, each year more than 4 million people in more than 20 countries raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer through the Relay For Life movement. Each local Relay for Life also gives an opportunity for survivors to celebrate what they have overcome in the company of caregivers, family, friends and other relay participants.
Relay for Life is marking its 20th year in Harford County. During that time, more than $1 million has been raised at several local venues during that time.
This year's Bel Air Relay for Life, held May 30-31 at Bel Air High School, raised more than $70,000, according to organizers.
