This year's Relay for Life in Havre de Grace brought more than 600 participants to the track at James R. Harris Stadium last Friday and Saturday.
As of Wednesday, about $92,000 had been raised for American Cancer Society programs, according to Nichole Steadman, Relay for Life community manager with the South Atlantic Division of the ACS.
Steadman said they will accept donations until Aug. 31 to reach the fundraising goal of $100,000. Donations can be made online at relayforlife.org/havredegracemd.
The Cirque de Relay in Havre de Grace had 628 registered participants, Steadman said.
The top five individual fundraisers were Debbie Leadore, Rose Poston, Elaine Bennett, Susan Brown and Sharon Gaydos.
The top five individual fundraising teams were Team Rite Aid, Roye-Williams Elementary School, Higgie's Heroes, Cranberry Cancer Crushers and Robin Hood Relayers.
Among this year's sponsors were Holiday Inn, Johnson Family Pharmacy, Rite Aid, Harford Bank, Holloway Eye Care and Optics, Robinhood Paintball, Mile One Automotive, Ripken Baseball, Smuckers, Airgas, Harford Bank, Cranberry United Methodist Church, Harford Lower Extremity Specialists, the American Legion, University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health, Lunch Box Deli and Treats, The Traffic Group, Fawn Industries, Pandemic Outfitters and HydroGraphic Solutions.
Relay for Life, which marked its 20th year in Harford County with recent events in Havre de Grace and in Bel Air May 31-June 1, has raised more than $1 million locally.
According to the American Cancer Society, each year more than four million people in more than 20 countries raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer through the Relay For Life movement. Each local Relay for Life also gives an opportunity for survivors to celebrate what they have overcome in the company of caregivers, family, friends and other relay participants.
