Body found in Cecil identified as missing Havre de Grace woman

A body found in the waters off Elk Neck State Park in Cecil County Monday has been identified as a Havre de Grace woman who had been missing since the day after Christmas, Havre de Grace Police announced Thursday.

Maryland Natural Resources Police contacted Havre de Grace Police after a body, later determined to be that of 43-year-old Catherine Elizabeth Mace, was found in the Elk River in the Rogue's Harbor area of the park around 11:20 a.m. Monday, according to a police news release.

Havre de Grace Police coordinated a search for Ms. Mace after she was reported missing Dec. 26, 2014; the search involved state and local helicopters, search dogs, area volunteer fire companies and community volunteers.

Ms. Mace, who lived in the 900 block of Greenway Court, did not turn up despite a weekend spent searching for her. Her case remained open even after the major search ended.

Elk Neck State Park is across the Chesapeake Bay, southeast of Havre de Grace.

Her body was taken to the state's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy, and a relative identified the body as Ms. Mace's, according to the police news release.

There was no evidence of trauma on her body, and investigators are waiting for the results of a toxicology report.

"This investigation is still classified as open pending the toxicology report, and there is no evidence that suggest any foul play," according to the news release.

Ms. Mace's family last saw her in her home around 2 a.m. on Dec. 26, and they reported her missing around 7 a.m. that day after they did not see her. She had left personal possessions such as her cell phone behind, according to police.
