Havre de Grace Police Department is spearheading an investigation of a body found in the North East River Monday morning.
Maryland Natural Resources Police found a body at 11:21 a.m., Havre de Grace Ofc. Jeff Gilpin said early Monday afternoon.
A Havre de Grace detective is working to identify the body and determine if it is Catherine Mace, a 43-year-old Havre de Grace woman who has been missing since Dec. 26, 2014.
The NRP reported "a body that had washed ashore near the entrance to the Elk River," Gilpin said shortly before 3 p.m. Monday. "One of our detectives went out to the location to see if this is in relation to a missing persons report taken by our agency."
As of Monday afternoon, "there is no confirmation on the identity of the recovered person or if this incident is in relation to any active Havre de Grace Police investigation," Gilpin said via e-mail.
Natural Resources Police is assisting the city's police, spokesperson Candy Thomson said.
Mace went missing from her home in the 900 block of Greenway Court.
