Sixteen students from Harford County Public Schools were chosen as members of the 2014-2015 Maryland All-State Junior Band, the Maryland All-State Senior Band, the Maryland All-State Junior Chorus and the Maryland All-State Senior Chorus.
They were recognized recently for their "talent and dedication" at a Harford County Board of Education meeting.
Each year, more than 7,000 secondary school student musicians from public and private schools in all Maryland subdivisions audition for the Maryland All-State Bands, Orchestras and choruses sponsored by the Maryland Music Educators Association. Students take part in a competitive audition and their musical talent is judged by experts in their field. Those selected represent the best among Maryland's middle and high school student musicians.
The following student musicians were selected for 2014-15:
Maryland All-State Junior Band: Nicholas Peretti, horn, Bel Air Middle School.
Maryland All-State Junior Chorus: Amber McCafferty, soprano, C. Milton Wright High School; Garrett Thomas, bass, North Harford High School; and Richard Rzepka, tenor, Aberdeen Middle School.
Maryland All-State Senior Band: Brittany Packard, baritone saxophone, Bel Air High School; and Isaiah Keith, percussion, Havre de Grace High School.
Maryland All-State Senior Chorus (mixed and women's): Stephen Severn, alternate tenor, Aberdeen High School; Emma Nystrom, soprano 2, North Harford High School; Lisa Broadhurst, alto, Aberdeen High School; Elizabeth Doyle, alto, Fallston High School; Brett Klock, tenor, Bel Air High School; Noah Courtney, bass, Bel Air High School; Katie Allison, alto, Bel Air High School; Angela Lacerna, alto, Edgewood High School; Kelly Pysh, alto, Aberdeen High School; and Kaitlyn Trexler, alto, Fallston High School.
Performances for the groups are: April 27 to May 1, State High School Band, Chorus and Orchestra Festivals; May 9, State String and Vocal Solo and Ensemble Festivals; May 11 to 15, State Middle School Band, Chorus and Orchestra Festivals; and May 16, State Wind and Percussion Solo and Ensemble Festival.
