It's Greek Festival weekend in Harford County, beginning at 4 p.m. Friday and running through 7 p.m. Sunday at The John Carroll School in Bel Air.
"Lots of good food, that's the big draw I think," the Rev. Gregory Gilbert, the priest at Sts. Mary Magdalene and Markella Greek Orthodox Church in northern Harford, said Thursday about the three-day celebration. Sts. Mary Magdalene and Markella Greek Orthodox Church hosts the Greek Festival.
Gilbert said parishioners and other volunteers have been working months toward making this weekend successful.
The festival will be held from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday at The John Carroll School, 703 E. Churchville Road in Bel Air. Admission and parking are free.
There will be Greek food, desserts, music and other entertainment, including for kids. Some of the entertainment will feature dance troupes from several Greek churches, including Sts. Mary Magdalene and Markella. Beer, wine and liquor will also be available.
"We hope to show people that we are part of the community," Gilbert said, "and that this is a church for everyone."
Another highlight of the festival will be the variety of vendors selling Greek items.
