Fire set outside of Havre de Grace Saturday

Junked cars and other items were set on fire outside of Havre de Grace Saturday, causing $5,500 in damage, the Office of the State Fire Marshal reported.

The fire was discovered at 5:01 p.m. in the 4000 block of Gravel Hill Road, according to a notice of investigation.

The Harford County Hazmat Team responded, and about 60 firefighters spent 45 minutes trying to control the fire, which affected junked cars, a roll-back truck and various other junked items, according to the notice.

Firefighters from Level, Aberdeen, Bel Air and Rising Sun fire companies responded, as well as the Susquehanna Hose Company.

The fire was discovered by a passerby and the cause remains under investigation, according to the notice.
