For the second straight season, the Havre de Grace girls soccer team watched its season end with a loss to Manchester Valley.
This year's loss came Monday in Manchester, where the Mavericks scored four goals in the opening 21 minutes to win, 7-0, in the Class 1A South Region Championship. This is Manchester Valley's fourth consecutive region title.
Havre de Grace goalie Annelise Beer finished with 11 saves. The Warriors, who finish 3-10-1, had just one shot.
Thursday games
Girls soccer teams from Bel Air and Havre de Grace each played their way into championship games of their respective regions Thursday.
Bel Air (12-1-2) knocked off visiting C. Milton Wright (13-3-1), 1-0, in the Class 3A North-Section II final, while Havre de Grace (3-9-1) edged visiting Joppatowne (1-10-1), 2-1, in two overtimes in the 1A South-Section I final.
Bel Air was to host the Westminster winner in Tuesday's region final.
Bel Air's Shannon Williams scored the game-winner with 25 minutes left in regulation, finishing off a pass from Elizabeth Hillman.
Bobcats goalie Andrea Sipos earned the win with two saves, while Rachel Knoebel made seven saves for CMW.
Richardson leads Warriors
Havre de Grace's Addie Richardson scored on a loose ball just outside the box with 1:16 left in the second 10-minute overtime period to lift the Warriors.
Richardson also scored with 8:02 left in regulation to force the overtime periods. Teammate Lexi Gast made a run just outside the box and was pushed down, giving Havre de Grace a direct kick.
Richardson lifted a shot just over the outstretched hands of Mariners goalie Caitlin Meurer from 20 yards out.
Joppatowne had taken a 1-0 lead at the 16:44 mark of the first half. Austine May pushed a ball forward to Yessica Bustamante on a breakaway. Bustamante hit a ground ball shot to the far post, just past the diving effort of Havre de Grace keeper Annelise Beer.
The Mariners had a penalty kick in the second half, but the shot sailed high.
Beer finished with three saves for Havre de Grace. Meurer had 13 for Joppatowne.
Cougars win on Friday
Fallston (9-4-2) was a 2A East-Section I winner as well, winning 3-0 at Rising Sun. Alicyn Lose, Maribeth Esposito and Taylor Dudley tallied goals in the win. Lose and Kassidy Webster had assists.
Cougars goalie Katelyn Briguglio made three saves.
Fallston was to play Parkside on Tuesday at Wicomico County Stadium.
