Girls soccer playoffs heating up as regular season ends

With regular season play finished up earlier in the week, girls soccer teams have turned their focus toward the region playoffs.

Patterson Mill and Harford Tech, both playing in Class 2A East-Section I, were to be in quarterfinal action Thursday night. Patterson Mill was hosting Elkton and Tech was hosting North East. Fallston awaits the Tech-North East winner on Tuesday, while Patterson Mill will visit Rising Sun on Tuesday with a win.

Harford's Class 3A schools will be in action today (Friday) in 3A North-Section II quarterfinal play. North Harford will visit Patapsco at 3 p.m. with Bel Air to host the winner on Tuesday.

Edgewood will host Aberdeen at 5:30 p.m. and C. Milton Wright will host Dundalk at 7 p.m. Winners will meet Tuesday.

In Class 1A South-Section I, Havre de Grace and Joppatowne are the two teams in the bracket. Havre de Grace will host Joppatowne in the section final at 4 p.m. Thursday. The winner will advance to the region championship game to be played at Manchester Valley or North Carroll on Nov. 4.

Results

In two final regular season games played, Bel Air beat Fallston, 2-0, to secure the UCBAC"s Chesapeake (upper) Division crown.

Kayla Klock and Alexcia Kraemer scored Bel Air's goals, with assists from Gabriela Encarnacion and Juliana Portera.

Bobcats goalie Andrea Sipos made six saves and Fallston keeper Katelyn Briguglio had 12 saves.

Bel Air led 1-0 at the half.

On Wednesday, Edgewood defeated host Havre de Grace, 4-1. The Rams led 3-0 at the half.

Caitlin Rankin scored twice, while Alyssa Rankin and Abby Olah added single goals.

Caraline Cypher netted the lone Havre de Grace goal. Havre de Grace goalie Annelise Beer made five saves.
