The Bel Air girls lacrosse team made the most of its first trip to the state tournament Friday evening at Northeast-Anne Arundel High School.
The Bobcats had no trouble with Walt Whitman in a Class 3A-4A state semifinal, winning big, 13-1. The Bobcats led, 10-1, at the half.
Bel Air will face either Howard or Severna Park in the state final. Howard and Severna Park are scheduled to play Saturday at 2 p.m. The final will be played Tuesday or Wednesday at Stevenson University. Game time could be 4, 6 or 8 p.m.
"We kind of went out there with the attitude of, if they're in our state semifinals, they obviously deserve to be there and they're a quality team, so that's what we prepared for," Bobcats first year head coach Kristen Barry said. "The girls just took care of it themselves and showed up. It was a very exciting win."
The Bobcats (13-4) got scoring from several players. Shannon Williams and Anna Farley led the way with three goals each. Emily McQuay added two goals, while single goals were scored by Bekah Riley, Julia Henry, Sam Keesey, Kami Holt and Lexy Strobel. Farley also had three assists, as did Riley. McQuay had two assists and Henry had one.
Goalie Sydney Matthews had a big night with 10 saves.
"It all came together, it was a perfect game all-around. Everyone was involved, every player got in the game," Barry said. "Our team motto all year has been one team, one dream, one heart. We refer to each other as family members. We're not just a team, we're a family"
