The Harford Tech girls lacrosse team got its season off to a great start Monday, scoring 23 goals in its 23-0 win over visiting Aberdeen in non-division play.
Courtney Poole led the Cobras with six goals and two assists, while Becca Williams added five goals and three assists. Sam Volz also had multiple goals with four and two assists.
Tech players with single goals were Bethany Bishop (one assist), Tori Arcilesi (one assist), Amanda Weir, Ally Piercy, Mikailla Spencer, Meagan Sturla, Hannah Kuzemchak (one assist) and Jenna Cianelli (one assist).
The Cobras also had a top defensive performance from Sarah Thornton, Coach Emma Little noted.
Mustangs edged by champs
C. Milton Wright opened its season at home Monday, hosting Manchester Valley, the defending Class 1A-2A state champs.
The Mustangs played the Mavericks to a 3-3 first half tie, but were outscored in the second half, 4-2, in a 7-5 loss.
"A great early season challenge for us playing the defending 1A/2A state champs. We played really well and composed in the first half," Mustangs Coach Brent Ritz said.
Haley Matthai scored three of the Mustangs' goals, while Haley Alexander and Julia O'Mara added single goals. Alexander also had an assist.
CMW goalie Katelyn Miller made 13 saves.
"I thought both teams played excellent defensively. Katelyn Miller was outstanding in the goal with 13 saves," Ritz said. "We look forward to getting back to work and improving every day."
Rams beat Mariners
Edgewood opened with a win Monday, dropping visiting Joppatowne, 15-1, in non-division play.
Jordyn Carll scored four goals and assisted on another to lead the Rams. Alyssa Rankin and Nicole Wiland each scored three goals.
Allison Bomhardt and Caitlin Rankin (one assist) added two goals each and Nadiyah Alvi netted one goal.
Kelsie Davis scored Joppatowne's lone goal, unassisted.
Edgewood goalie Darcy Baynes made one save and Joppatowne keeper Savannah Day had 13 saves.
Other leaders for Joppatowne were Breanna Kazamias, three ground balls, one caused turnover; Layana Dix, two ground balls; and Kiley Hartsell, one ground ball.
