Harford County's two best girls basketball teams are back in an familiar spot, as both Aberdeen and Patterson Mill won big Saturday in regional section play.
But the seasons of Havre de Grace, Edgewood and Harford Tech ended in defeats, Tech's at the hand of the defending state champion Huskies.
Patterson Mill overcame a bit of a slow start to easily roll past host Tech, 72-21, in the Class 2A East Region section I final. The Huskies will play in their fourth straight region final Monday at home, facing Kent Island. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
In Saturday's win, the Huskies (18-5) missed two jump shots, before making their next two for an 4-0 lead.
Tech (16-5) answered with four points to tie the game, but Patterson Mill scored the next nine and Tech never recovered. The Huskies led 13-8 after one quarter, but pushed the lead to 10, 20-10, on Sam Herman's steal and layup with three minutes gone in quarter two.
In all, it was an 14-2 Huskies run, that forced Tech to call timeout, down, 27-10, with under four minutes left in the half.
Tech's Trinitee Grant ended the run with a three-point shot, but the Cobras were outscored, 6-2, over the remaining two minutes. Chyna Latimer took over for Patterson Mill, scoring two straight baskets to give the Huskies an 33-15 halftime lead.
In the second half it was all Patterson Mill, as the Huskies held the Cobras to just six second half points, three in each quarter.
The Huskies, meanwhile, were lighting up the scoreboard with 17 third quarter points and 22 more in the fourth. The third quarter started with an 10-0 run.
Khayla Mitchell scored a game-high 18 points off the Huskies bench. Herman added 15 points and Qalea Ismail scored 14. Latimer finished with eight points and Sia Barnes chipped in with seven points.
Jonna Maddox had 10 points to pace Tech.
Eagles drop Rams
Aberdeen (18-2) had no trouble in the 3A North East section II final. The Eagles jumped on visiting Edgewood (5-13) early and rolled from there, winning big, 73-22. The Eagles led, 43-11, at half.
Aberdeen will make a trip to Milford Mill on Monday for a 4 p.m. meeting with the Millers in the region final.
Warriors fall on road
Havre de Grace (12-11) lost at Bo Manor, 44-34, in the Class 1A East section I final. It was the fourth loss suffered by the Warriors this season against Bo Manor.
Taylor Smith scored 14 points and Samara White added 13 for Havre de Grace.
The postgame was marred by a scuffle of sorts, which was reportedly started when an Havre de Grace player shoved a Bo Manor player onto the bench.
