HCS girls win hoop tournament in Delaware

With incredible third quarter comeback in the title game against Wilmington Christian Saturday, the Harford Christian girls basketball team won the Wilmington Christian Invitational Tournament.

Trailing 28-15 at half, the Eagles rallied with a huge third quarter en route to a 51-47 win.

Harford pressed Wilmington Christian and outscored them 24-5.

The Eagles took a 39-33 lead into the fourth quarter, but the lead was cut to one with less than 30 seconds to go.

Crystal Kline (14 points) converted five of six free throws in the last 30 seconds to seal the championship.

Tournament MVP Lily Loomis (18 points, nine steals) led the Eagles on both ends of the floor. Maddie Purdy (eight points, 13 rebounds) was named All-Tournament.

On Friday, the Eagles opened with a 50-29 semifinal win over Red Lion Christian.

Loomis and Kline shared high scoring honors with 18 apiece. Kline added a team-best 11 rebounds and Taylor Lavin added 10 rebounds and Purdy had nine.

HCS is 12-2 on the season.

Girls basketball teams were back on the court in full force Thursday night. Highlighting the action were Patterson Mill and Harford Tech, both of which won to remain unbeaten and atop their respective UCBAC divisions.

Aberdeen and C. Milton Wright were also winners.

Patterson Mill (4-0 league, 8-3 overall) won its Chesapeake Division game at Edgewood, 64-33. The loss dropped the Rams to 1-4, 2-6.

Qalea Ismail poured in 27 points for the Huskies, while Kayla Mitchell added 11 points and Sam Barnett netted eight.

Bianca Tucker and Tahjae Y. Williams each scored eight points to guide the Rams.

Patterson Mill was also in action Saturday at Riverdale Baptist as part of the MLK Hoop Classic.

The Huskies knocked off Parkdale, 56-40.

Sam Herman scored 17 points to lead the Huskies, while Mitchell and Ismail added 12 points each. Chyna Latimer added 10 points.

Cobras lead Susquehanna

Harford Tech (5-0, 7-1) stayed unbeaten and atop the Susquehanna Division standings with a 51-31 win over visiting Joppatowne (1-4, 1-9). The Cobras led 29-21 at half.

Jonna Maddox led Tech with 17 points and six assists, while Breyana McWhite added eight points and 10 rebounds. Jordon Althoff also scored eight points for the Cobras.

Eagles beat Bobcats

Aberdeen (4-1, 10-1) stayed on the heels of the Huskies with a 69-29 Chesapeake win at Bel Air. The Bobcats fell to 2-2 and 4-8.

Endia Jones tossed in 15 points to lead the Eagles, while Kierra Palmer and Stephanie Jones each scored 14. Nazje Norton finished with eight points.

Oceana Murphy paced Bel Air with nine points.

Aberdeen led 45-15 at the half.

Mustangs beat Cougars

C. Milton Wright (2-2, 10-2) snapped its two-game skid, beating visiting Fallston, 56-29, in Chesapeake play.

Emma Hahner scored 18 points to lead CMW, while Ayreka Browning added 13 and Blake Bukowski had 12.

Alisa Schmidt scored 10 points to pace the Cougars (0-4, 6-6) and Logan Gasior added eight.

Warriors edged by Tigers

Havre de Grace's (2-3, 5-5) bid at upsetting visiting Rising Sun fell a point short in a 47-46 Tigers Susquehanna Division win.

The Warriors led 13-11 after one period, but trailed 28-20 at the half. A 14-9 scoring advantage for Havre de Grace in the third quarter cut the deficit to 37-34 with a quarter to play.

Samara White's three-point basket tied the game just seconds into the fourth quarter at 37. White added a free throw to push Havre de Grace ahead, 38-37, but Rising Sun slipped back ahead and held the lead for good.

Taylor Smith scored 13 points to pace the Warriors, while Essence Maye added 10. Addie Richardson had nine points and White finished with eight.

Brooke Bower led Rising Sun (4-0, 8-2) with 15 points and Lexi Osborne added 11.
