Maryland State Police troopers at the JFK Highway Barrack arrested a Virginia woman who is wanted for kidnapping in that state after she was stopped on I-95 in Cecil County early Thursday morning.
The suspect is identified as Carshena Chieffo, 35, of Buckingham, Va. She was charged with being a fugitive from justice and is currently awaiting an extradition hearing, according to a State Police news release.
At about 1 a.m, the JFK Highway Barrack duty officer received a call from Baltimore County dispatch in reference to a lookout for a blue Nissan pick-up truck with Virginia registration.
Baltimore County Police, who were in contact with authorities in Virginia, advised that Chieffo had allegedly kidnapped her two children, ages 11 and 16, and was traveling with them north on I-95 in the area of the Route 22 exit in Aberdeen, police said.
Chieffo did not have legal custody of her children and allegedly had taken them without permission, police said.
Troopers were able to locate and stop the vehicle in the area of northbound I-95 near the 107 mile marker in Cecil County. Chieffo was taken into custody without incident and charged as a fugitive, police said. The two children were in the vehicle and were unharmed.
Troopers are continuing to assist Virginia authorities with their investigation.
