First Fridays return in Bel Air, HdG

First Fridays celebrations return in Bel Air and Havre de Grace this month and continue throughout the summer and into the fall.

Billed as Bel Air's "best block party," First Fridays in Bel Air is hosted by the Bel Air Downtown Alliance and sponsored by Harford Mutual and M&T Bank.

First Fridays features local live music, a beer and wine garden, food and more and this season will showcase a new local band each month.

The free, outdoor festival will be this year at the Main Street Lot commonly referred to as the Main Street Tower Lot.

The first First Fridays of the season will feature The Klassix, sponsored by the Alliance, as well as pit beef from The Tower and face-painting by Bambine Family Entertainment Inc. Proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Harford County.

Other bands scheduled to play this season include Thunderball, sponsored by 103.7 WXCY, on June 5; Remains of Radio, sponsored by Thompson Automotive, on July 3; Route 66, sponsored byNortheast Beverage, on Aug. 7; Head Rush, sponsored byLennar Homes, on Sept. 4; and Don't Stop, sponsored byBoyle Buick GMC, on Oct. 2.

Other non-profits benefiting from First Fridays include Harford County, June 5; Ma & Pa Heritage Trail, July 3; No Kill Harford, Aug. 7; LASOS, Sept. 4; and Chesapeake Cancer Alliance, Oct. 2.

The event is weather permitting. In the case of bad weather, it will be moved indoors to MaGerk's in Bel Air.

Havre de Grace First Fridays is also returning Friday, May 1, and will continue through October, and weather permitting, in November and December.

With Washington, St. John and Franklin streets closed to traffic, and market stalls lining the street, special events and musicians, Havre de Grace stores stay open late, allowing visitors to enjoy the city, meet friends and enjoy the cafés and restaurants.
