Man dies in single-car crash on Route 152 in Joppa early Sunday; first highway fatality of 2018 in Harford

An Odenton man was killed early Sunday morning in a car crash on Mountain Road in Joppa, according to Maryland State Police.

The death was the first of 2018 reported on Harford County roads.

Jack Kriger, 33, was driving a 1995 Ford Ranger pickup south on Route 152 about 100 yards past Singer Road around 2:30 a.m., Cpl. Sander of the Maryland State Police Bel Air Barrack said.

For unknown reasons, the truck veered to the right side of the road, came back on and spun across all lanes of traffic, hit an embankment on the northbound side and overturned, Sander said.

The truck landed in some trees and caught fire, he said.

Kriger, who was ejected from the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers detected an odor of alcohol, but won’t know if it was a factor in the crash until toxicology reports are back, Sander said.

Route 152 was shut down for about two hours while troopers investigated the crash.

Members of Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company also responded to put out the fire in the truck.
