Harford's first baby of 2014 delivered to Bel Air couple

Victoria Cheshier was the first baby born in 2014 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center on New Year's Day.

Harford County's first baby of 2014 arrived on New Year's Day, but she was a long time coming for her Bel Air parents.

Victoria Marie was 12 days "late" when she was born at 1 a.m. on Jan. 1, delivered at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air to Jedd and Uliana Cheshier.

The baby's due date had been set at Dec. 20, so the Cheshiers scheduled an induced delivery when she failed to arrive.

It was the first baby for 27-year-old Uliana Cheshier.

Victoria's mother was nevertheless pleasantly surprised to find out she had Harford's baby of 2014, at 8 pounds, 4 ounces and 21 inches in length.

"I think it's wonderful, kind of magical," Uliana Cheshier said of having a New Year's baby. "[The baby] was kind of waiting for a while."

She said they were prepared for the baby to come around a holiday.

"We thought she might be born on Christmas or something like that," the mother said, adding she and her husband were hoping the baby would come by the end of the year.

The Cheshiers have lived in Bel Air for about five years. Victoria has a 10-year-old sister, Lily, daughter of Jedd Cheshire.

Uliana Cheshier said the couple had not made any real plans for New Year's – "just waiting for the baby."

Mother and daughter are expected to be able to leave the hospital Friday.

Her husband, Jedd, who is 34, called the New Year's arrival "very cool."
