Two boys, 14, charged with setting field on fire in Edgewood

Two 14-year-old boys were arrested and charged in connection with a field fire in Edgewood Saturday, fire officials said.

The fire in an open field in the 2000 block of Trimble Road was reported around 9:15 p.m., according to a notice of investigation from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. Harford County government owns the property.

The fire, which originated in dry brush and vegetation, was discovered by a passerby.

Firefighters from the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company responded and had the fire under control in about five minutes, according the Fire Marshal's Office.

Investigators determined the fire was deliberately set by an incendiary device.

With the assistance of the Harford County Sheriff's Office, the two 14-year-olds were located and charged with malicious burning, according to the Fire Marshal's Office.

The boys were released to the custody of their parents, pending action by Harford County Juvenile Services.
