The 29th annual Harford County Farm Fair wrapped up Sunday with good weather, and co-chairperson Aimee O'Neill praised the turnout despite a few storm-related cancellations the night before.Most notably, the popular tractor pull event was called off Saturday night as heavy rains passed through the Baltimore region, but in general the annual four-day fair had plenty to do and see for thousands of visitors who came to the Harford County Equestrian Center in Bel Air, O'Neill said."Our fair has actually been a good fair except that the weather wasn't with us, so, therefore, when we have a lot of rain, it makes it hard to do all of our activities," O'Neill said Sunday afternoon, explaining the tractor pull was cancelled at 7 p.m. Saturday and most of the rides closed by 8 p.m. "because it was not safe.""We still had a really good livestock auction, and while everyone else was going home in the rain, we had our talent contest going on," she said. "Most of the fairgoers were gone by then, but, like I said, we had the livestock auction which ran until almost 10 and the talent contest ran until 9.""I think people enjoy our fair," O'Neill added.The rodeo also went on in the rain Thursday night for a while, "so we had a fair number of people that were here," she said. "We think having it [the rodeo] Thursday night is a good idea. It's a little cooler. We did have a larger attendance than we did on the Sunday afternoon rodeo, so that was a good idea for us."O'Neill said Harford County's Department of Emergency Services praised fair organizers and the leaders "had excellent communication" when lightning passed through Thursday night.Also, "we actually haven't had incidents of any kind," she said. "It's been a safe fair."Among the new events has been the Buy Local! Eat Local! showcase featuring some local breweries and wineries, as well as the Artisans Village, which "doubled in size" this year, she said."That's been nicely appreciated, well-attended, and then we have a lot of local crafters here," O'Neill said of the locally-focused event.One of the new exhibitors this year was her brother, Harry O'Neill, a business partner in Bel Air's popular Independent Brewing Company."It's been a really good turnout today with the local crafts that we've had offered this side of the tent," Harry O'Neill said, adding that Independent Brewing had tastings at the fair and the annual event offered "a lot of good exposure."We had a lot of good traffic coming through and people are getting to learn about us who wouldn't have that opportunity to find out about us otherwise, so it's been a great positive experience for us as well as the other vendors here," he said.
