In a barn near the Harford County Farm Fair entrance, dozens of fruits, vegetables, canned goods, photographs, paintings, rugs and other hand-crafted or homemade offerings have been on display since being judged and awarded various ribbons.On Friday, the neatly-arranged exhibits featured eggs for the first time, Mary Amoss, who oversees the fair's Mary Blackhall White Home Arts Building, explained."Harford County is a family-based area, and everybody in the family loves to show what they've grown, what they've made, at the fair," Amoss said at the 29th annual Fair."Most of the superintendents in this building have been here over 20 years," she said. "They're volunteers, they come out every year, and it's always hot or rainy, but they put forth a lot of effort and time so the community in Harford County can enjoy what everybody has grown and made to show everyone."Amoss also pointed out a special table dedicated to Mary Blackhall White."The selections here may not have received first place, but, according to the superintendent, the exhibitors put forth a lot of effort and time, and ... this encourages them to do better next year or improve what they have done," Amoss said."Mary White worked here in this building for over 26 years and dedicated her time to the people of county," she said. "It was important to her that people have a place to come and show what they've done throughout the year, their accomplishments, to others, so that others could learn from what they have made."A steady stream of families and other visitors stopped to check out the walls of artistic displays, tables of baked goods and rows of quilts and rugs.Among them was Reisterstown's Rebecca McDougall, who passed through the Home Arts building with her children, 4-year-old Eliza, 6-year-old George and 5-month-old Molly."We came out to see all the first prizes, so that's what we were looking for, all the first prizes," McDougall said, noting she was at the fair for the first time. "We love farm fairs, and we love the baby pigs and the horse show; we came here to see the horse show."
