The arrival of spring is bringing signs of new commercial life on Havre de Grace's Revolution Street.
Family Dollar, a discount store, is under construction at the corner of Seneca Avenue, on the east side of Revolution Street. It will be across the street from the small shopping center with Pat's Pizza, Frank's Pizza and Post Road Liquors.
"I like seeing that neighborhood out there getting developed again and having a family store," Tom Lofland, Havre de Grace's economic development director, said Monday. He noted the business has been in the pipeline for almost a year.
The store is set to open this fall, Family Dollar public and media relations manager Bryn Winburn said Tuesday.
The 8,240-square-foot building will feature 42 parking spaces facing Seneca and Revolution, according to the site plan. It also has a bio-retention facility near the side by Lily Run.
"Our goal is to open stores in neighborhoods and communities that are in close proximity to where our customers live and work," Winburn wrote in an e-mail. "We utilized sophisticated modeling software to determine that Havre de Grace would be a great new location for us, and we are excited about this new neighborhood store as we know our customers will benefit from the value and convenience we provide."
Family Dollar will be the third discount variety store in town. Dollar General and Dollar Tree are across from each other on Route 40 near Lewis Lane.
Family Dollar has multiple locations in Baltimore and one other site in Harford County, at Edgewater Village Shopping Center in Edgewood.
