The sudden summer [Editorial]

Maybe it was all the searing heat in late June and the interminable rain for much of July – plus more heat and rain this month — but it sure seems like Summer 2018 has really rushed by us in Harford County.

We’re midway through August. The Maryland State BBQ Bash came and went Friday and Saturday and the last big local event of the summer, the Havre de Grace Art Show, is this Saturday and Sunday. Let’s hope it doesn’t suffer the rainy fate of the Farm Fair last month. Fortunately, the BBQ Bash escaped with just a little rain Saturday afternoon.

Bel Air High School held a new orientation program for some of its incoming freshman last week, with similar “success sessions” coming up today and Thursday. Local high school athletes have begun practicing for the fall season, and it won’t be long until new teachers report for orientation.

Can Labor Day and the start of school in Harford County on Sept. 4 really be less than three weeks away?

Last year, it seemed like we had an endless summer. Not so much this year, but let’s savor the next few weeks and be glad we still have them.
