A fire damaged a townhouse in Edgewood on Tuesday evening, but didn't injure anyone, the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company reported.
Firefighters responded to a blaze in the 1000 block of Waterside Court with smoke showing at about 8 p.m., according to the company's Facebook page.
Monitored Harford County emergency radio broadcasts at the time said "heavy black smoke" was observed coming from the dwelling, which is in the Edgewater Village community.
No one was home at the time and firefighters spent about five minutes controlling the fire, Joppa-Magnolia Fire Chief Ryan Barrow said.
The fire, which started in the living room, was discovered by a passerby, according to investigators from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office, who responded to the scene with a K-9 team.
Barrow said the fire caused about $10,000 in damage to the living room.
About 25 firefighters responded, he said.
In a follow-up notice of investigation, the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said that in addition to the structural damage the two-story townhouse, the estimated loss to the home's contents is $5,000.
The fire remains under investigation, with the preliminary cause listed as "incendiary," according to the notice of investigation.
