A man is charged in connection with an incident in Edgewood Saturday in which he allegedly tried to stab his uncle but ended up cutting himself, police said.
Willie Smiley, 32, who police said has no fixed address, went to visit his uncle Friday night in the 1600 block of Candlewood Court in Edgewood. Smiley got into an argument with his uncle Friday night that police said carried over into Saturday morning.
Shortly before noon, Smiley and his uncle were arguing again and Smiley allegedly tried to stab his uncle with a knife, according to Edward Hopkins, spokesman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office. The uncle's mother, who lives with Smiley's uncle, tried to intervene and pushed Smiley out of the way; Smiley ended up cutting himself on the arm, Hopkins said.
Smiley, who was treated at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, was charged with first- and second-degree assault and was awaiting a bail review before a district court commissioner Saturday evening, Hopkins said.
