An 8-month old Aberdeen boy was airlifted to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Center in Baltimore Sunday night after he was bitten by a dog at his home.The boy suffered an injury to the head after being bitten by his family's dog around 8:52 p.m. in the 200 block of Woodland Green Way, the Aberdeen Police Department reported.Aberdeen Police secured the scene while members of the Aberdeen Fire Department provided medical treatment, the police department said in a news release.It was determined the child needed to be flown via Maryland State Police Department Medevac to Johns Hopkins Pediatric for treatment.The Medevac landed near Ripken Stadium for the pickup around 9:30 p.m.As of Monday afternoon, the boy remained hospitalized in serious but stable condition, the police department said.Det. Sgt. Will Reiber, a police spokesperson, said Monday that the child and dog were in the same room."It was an unprovoked attack," he said.Reiber did not know the breed of the dog.Harford County's Animal Control Division will conduct its own investigation of the incident, according to Reiber.The dog has been removed from the residence and taken to the Humane Society of Harford County for a "rigorous assessment," he said.Aegis staff member Bryna Zumer contributed to this report.
