The Harford County Department of Emergency Services will host a new "all hazards" emergency preparedness and safety course, Prepare Because You Care, beginning Wednesday, Jan. 14.
The program will be covered in four weekly sessions on Wednesday evenings. In addition to Jan. 14, sessions will be held Jan. 21, Jan. 28 and Feb. 4 at the Harford County Department of Emergency Services in Forest Hill. Sessions begin at 7 p.m. and end at 9 p.m.
Those wishing to participate in the classes must be at least age 16. Participants are encouraged to attend each of the four sessions. The Department of Emergency Services will issue a certificate of training to those who complete all four sessions. There is no charge.
The Prepare Because You Care program includes topics such as: Emergency Management and Preparedness, Fire Safety and Fire Extinguisher Use, Crime Prevention and Awareness and CPR/First Aid.
"This new program is designed for those who have limited knowledge regarding the various topics," Emergency Manager Rick Ayers said in a statement. "The course will be exciting and interactive and will help citizens to become better prepared to handle emergencies and survive the first 72 hours following a disaster."
Public safety partners assisting the Department of Emergency Services with the four-week course include the Harford County Sheriff's Office and Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.
